May 2, 1947 – June 23, 2016
Boyd Allen Wilson was born on May 2, 1947 in Murray, Utah to William Walter and Elma Sarah Boggess Wilson. He was the youngest of three children, and was raised in their family home on Redwood Road in Bennion, Utah.
He attended schools in the Salt Lake Valley, graduating from Granger High School in 1965. He attended the University of Utah for one year, and then served a mission to Switzerland from 1966-1968. He returned to college, graduating from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in 1972 and a Master’s degree in Business Administration in 1974.
Boyd married Susan Diane Rameson on June 6, 1973 in the Salt Lake Temple. Their marriage and family have been their greatest blessings. They have eight children, two daughters and six sons. At the present time they also have two sons-in-law, six daughters-in-law, and twenty-seven delightful grandchildren. They built their first home in Highland, Utah in 1976, and have many very dear neighbors, friends, and extended family members.
Boyd’s first work experience was with Fluor Engineers in Southern California, and then he worked for Horrock’s Engineers in American Fork, Utah. In the spring of 1978 he and three partners started their own engineering firm, Pioneer Engineering. His original company changed its name over the years as situations changed, becoming Arix Engineers, Versar Engineering, and Civil Science. He received great satisfaction in his company’s ability to provide employment opportunities for many people, and for many years their company was more like a family than a business. Boyd was an appointed member of the first Highland City Council when Highland City was incorporated in 1977. He also served on the Highland City Planning Commission and the Highland Water Company Board of Directors, and was the Highland City Engineer for many years.
Boyd was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His mission experience in Switzerland changed his life and prepared him for a lifetime of service. He served in numerous positions, including Elder’s quorum president, cub scout leader, scoutmaster, bishop’s counselor, Young Men’s president, stake Young Men’s counselor, bishop, stake high councilor, and counselor in the Highland Utah Stake presidency. Most recently he served in the Utah State Developmental Center Ward. He had an unshakable testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and enjoyed his church work as he tried to share the light of his testimony with others.
The greatest joy in Boyd’s life was his family. He worked very hard in order to provide growth opportunities and meaningful experiences for them. His wife, his children, their spouses, and now the quickly-expanding group of grandchildren were his first love and highest priority; their happiness always his first concern.
Boyd is survived by his wife, Susan; their children and spouses, Julie (Raymond) Robinson, Scott (Diana) Wilson, Kevin (Emily) Wilson, Lisa (Jon) Schaack, David (Megan) Wilson, Michael (Emily) Wilson, Steven (Claira) Wilson, and Ryan (Hannah)Wilson; his brother, Dennis (JoAnne) Wilson, and his sister, Jan Livingston. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Elma Wilson.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Highland LDS Stake Center Chapel, 4679 West 11000 North, Highland, Utah. Family and friends may call Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Highland Stake Center Chapel and also at an additional viewing Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to services at the church. Interment will take place at the Highland City Cemetery.
