David Fackrell

David Nolan Fackrell, 50, formerly of American Fork, died April 7, 1997 in Provo after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Mar. 11, 1947 in Salt Lake City to David Max and Vonetta Hardman Fackrell. He attended Granger High School; received a bachelor's degree from Utah State University and an Associate's degree from the University of Utah. He served an LDS mission in France and Switzerland.

He married Marla Sue Argyle June 26, 1970 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

David was active in the Scouting program and also served in the Elder's Quorum.

He worked in the Fur Industry; served on the National Fur Commission. He loved fishing, riding his horse and spending time with his family. He also had a great sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 27 years, Marla, two sons and a daughter, Quin, Aime, and Clint, all of Pleasant Grove; his parents, David Max and Vonetta Fackrell, and a brother, Brent (Lorraine) Fackrell, all of Highland; five sisters, Diana Poulsen, Lehi; Pamela (Mac) Adamson, Sandy; Maurine Barlow, Sandy; Sharon (Rick) Brocious, Highland. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lori Ann Fackrell.

Funeral Services Sat., 10 a.m. in the Timpanogas East Stake Center, 800 No. 100 West, Pleasant Grove. Friends may call at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 No., American Fork, Friday 6 to 8 p.m. and Sat. at the Church one hour prior to services. Interment, American Fork Cemetery.

David had friends and family all over the country who will miss his intelligence and willingness to serve others. His infectious smile will never be forgotten.

Kerry Allen

Kerry Lynn Allen was born April 14, 1947 in Delta, UT to Vaughn and Mildred Keele Allen.  He married Barbara Joy Maxwell on June 11, 1969 and divorced in 1993. 

Kerry passed away on June 20, 1996 at the age of 49 and is buried in St. George, UT  He was survived by his parents and daughter, Katrina Allen.  His six-year-old daughter, Elizabeth Amanda (Mandy) Allen, preceded him in death August 4, 1989 .  Kerry’s younger brother, Randall V. Allen passed away in 1994.

Jim Coombs

Jimmy Dean Coombs, 49, of Manassas, Virginia, died June 14, 1996 in Brunswick, Georgia.

He was born August 2, 1946 in Moroni, Utah to Morris William and Bessie Sophia Jensen Coombs.He served 22 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, including 3 tours in Vietnam, where he received the Purple Heart. He was a proud veteran. Later he was a detachment commander of Marine security guards at U.S. embassies in Bonn, Germany and Warsaw, Poland. After his service he joined the Dept. of State with the Diplomatic Security Service as a security training specialist. He was a member of the VFW, serving as vice commander.

He married Sharon Barr on October 2, 1970 bin Reno, Nevada. He was a loving father and beloved husband.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; two children, Jimmy Dean "J.J." Coombs, Jr. and Ronalie Coombs, both of Salt Lake City; two brothers, Mark Kay (RaNae) Coombs of Moroni; and Gordon (Tushain) Everts of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Inez (Ernie) Clayton of LaVerkin, and Lula Kirkman of Kearns. He was preceded in death by his father, Morris and mother and stepfather, Bessie and Adolph Everts.

Floyd George

Carl Kenner

Carl Joseph Kenner, 48, died January 5, 1996, at his home in Eureka, Utah.

Born September 3, 1947 in Murray, Utah to Scipio LeRay and Beverly Barrett Kenner. Married Cindy Lou Martinez in Elko, Nevada, on July 5, 1992. He was a highly decorated Marine who served three tours of duty in Vietnam. He loved the outdoors, his family and friends. He was generous and would help anyone in need.

Survived by daughters, Yvette (Richard) Rice; Shairise (Jeff) Warner; Tiffanie (Todd) Steele; Carlin Kenner; three stepchildren; 10 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Toni, Rick, Tammy, Le and Kim; parents, Scipio and Beverly Kenner; eight nieces and nephews.

Memorial graveside services Thursday, Jan. 11, 1996, 11 a.m. at the Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 So. Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale.

George Ashdown

George Hopkins Ashdown, age 47, passed away June 24, 1993 in St. George, UT.  He was born February 22, 1946 in Las Vegas NV to Ray and Milda Hopkins Ashdown.  He married Janice Elaine Tull on May 28, 1977 in Victorville, CA.  He served in the US Navy and was a member of the VFW.

He loved the outdoors and the mountains.  George was a hard working man and a loving husband and brother. 

He is survived by his wife of Greenville, UT, sons, Michael and Robert Ashdown both of Riverside, CA.  Foster parents Roy and Joyce Harris of Kearns, UT.  Brothers Jim Ashdown of Beaver, Jerry Yak of Sandy and Bill Hackler of Vernal.  sisters Jane Massey of Bloomington, CA, Beverly Edwards of Rock Springs, WY and Marie McCallister of Draper.  

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 28, 1993 at the Greenville LDS Ward chapel at 1:00 PM.  Friends may call at the church from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM on Monday.  Interment will be in the Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Olpin Mortuary.

Lance Robards

My significant other, whom I shared my life with, our adopted brother and son, Richard Lance Robards, passed away today, Sept. 13, 1992, in Salt Lake City, at the age of 45. He will be missed by all who knew him because he was loved.

Born August 10, 1947, in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Chester A. and Thelma Fowler Robards. He lived most of his adult life in California.Survived by: Mod, Oma, Christel, Monica, Michael and their families as well as numerous friends. Preceded in death by his mother, father and brother, Rex Robards.

Paul Larson

Paul Kerry Larson died on Janaury 13, 1990.  Born April 13, 1947 to Lynn Clifton and Olive Rhea Peacock Larson. Co-owner and manager of the Oaken Bucket where he loved the association of many friends and employees he dealt with daily. His smile and warmth created an environment enjoyed by all.

Survived by Loren T. Johnson, Salt Lake City; brother, Don and Marilyn Larson, Salt Lake City; sister, Karen and Bill Barton, West Valley City; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents and sister, Gayle Nordell.

Gail Qualls

March 3, 1968

Virgil Gail (Joe) Qualls was a very talented young man who had great promise in this life. He was an accomplished artist, who had won many contests including out of state. He was tragically taken on March 3, 1968 in an auto accident in Magna Utah. He had been out having fun with his buddy and were killed together in the wreckage. Joe loved his car that was totaled in the wreck as well.

He was born to Virgil Gail Qualls and Barbara Leonne Murdock Qualls on July 23, 1947. He was well loved and liked by many. He will live on forever in the hearts of our family. Joe was buried in the Valley View Memorial Park in West Valley City, UT.

County Youths Die in Traffic Mishap
Two young men who were killed instantly late Saturday, March 3, 1968, when their sports car crashed into the front end of oncoming truck were identified today as Virgil Gail Qualls Jr., 20, of 1475 W 6235 S, and Thomas Glen Kump, 18, of 4790 S 4300 W.

The deaths raised Utahs traffic toll to 30 for the year, compared to 34 at this time last year. Salt Lake County Deputy Sheriff Ned Franson said the two men were passing another car on 2100 South at 6400 West when their auto began skidding sideways.

It veered across the highway into the path of the oncoming eastbound van loaded with furniture bound for Denver. Deputy Franson said the impact was so great the sports car was torn apart and hurled off the south side of the highway.

The van driven by Michael Warren Fisher, 24, of Los Angeles continued down the highway and went off on the other side of the road.

Officers were unable to determine which of the victims was driving the car.

Doug is buried in the Valley View Memorial Park, West Valley City, UT.

Leslie Hambleton

Leslie Roseanna Hambleton Breeze, 20, 1155 Ridgedale Cir., was buried in Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park yesterday, Feb. 14, 1968, following services at Grant 6th Ward Chapel.  She died Feb. 10, 1968, of a gunshot wound in the head, according to investigating authorities.  Born July 7, 1947, at Salt Lake to Roseanna Conyers and Merrill Hambleton.  Married to Kay Lyman Breeze on April 14, 1966, at Salt Lake.  He died on Feb. 10, 1968, by his own hand.

Member of Grant 6th LDS ward.  Graduate of Granger High in 1965.  Survivors: father, Salt Lake, mother, Mrs. Roseanna Pitts, Salt Lake, brothers, Robert, Richard, Stephen Hambleton, Derald John, Jeffery Scott Pitts, all of Salt Lake, sister, Carolee Hambleton, Salt Lake, grandparents, Mrs. Lucile Conyers, Mrs. Hilda Hambleton, both of Salt Lake.

Gunshot Kill S. L. Sheriff’s Deputy, Wife

A Salt Lake County Sheriff’s deputy and his wife were killed Saturday in an apparent murder-suicide, Sheriff’s Lt. L. D. Hayward said.  The victims were identified as Kay Lyman Breeze, 30 and his wife, Leslie, 20.  The shooting occurred shortly before 2:30 PM in the laundry room in the basement of the home owned by Mrs. Breeze’s mother, Rose Pitts.  Mrs. Pitts was upstairs at the time.

Mrs. Breeze was shot through the neck, arm and lower abdomen with the deputy’s service revolver.  Breeze was shot once, through the head.  The couple had been separated a short time and Mrs. Breeze apparently was living at her mother’s home.

“Breeze was with the sheriff’s department 6 1/2 years.  He had a very good record,” Hayward said.  Breeze had been assigned to the detectives’ division.

Emory Jorgensen

Emory Lee Jorgensen was born May 8, 1947 in Monterey, CA to Roy Allen and Irene Berl Hodge Jorgensen.  He joined the US Army in Salt Lake City, UT and became an infantryman, airborne qualified in the 2ND PLT, D CO, 4TH BN, 503RD INFANTRY, 173RD ABN BDE, USARV.  The tour that took his life began June 2, 1967.  He was lost in action at the age of 20 in Kontum Province, South Vietnam on November 6, 1967, killed by hostile gunfire.  Emory was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense, Vietnam Service and Vietnam Campaign Medals.

Emory is buried in the Valley View Memorial Park, West Valley City, UT.

James Schiele

James Francis Schiele was born October 11, 1946 in Davenport, IA to Jerold Edward and Arlene Graba Schinckel Schiele.  He enlisted in the US Army March 30, 1966 as an infantryman and was declared dead March 27, 1978, nearly 11 years after he went missing in action in Pleiku Province, South Vietnam.  His body was not recovered.   James was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense, Vietnam Service and Vietnam Campaign medals.

Staff Sergeant Schiele was a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division. On July 12, 1967, he was on a search and destroy mission along the Cambodian border when his unit was overrun. He was badly wounded and listed as Missing in Action. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

On 12 July 1967, the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry, was engaged in the Ia Drang Valley by a battalion or larger force from the 66th NVA Regiment. When engaged, the 1/12's three rifle companies were physically separated, allowing the enemy force to attack the companies individually - B Company and C Company were isolated and taken under attack. Although C Company suffered only minor losses (5 wounded and none killed), B Company took heavy losses.

When the fighting ended seven US soldiers could not be located. Six years later, five of them returned from North Vietnamese POW camps, but two did not. SP4 James F. Schiele is believed to have died in captivity; his body has not been recovered.
